We have all your favorites here, like General Tso’s Chicken! But we also have some special dishes you won’t find anywhere else.
That’s because our family is from the northern part of China, and we grew up with these dishes in our kitchen.

Malala Chinese Food is named for the city of Malala, China. A town is so small that it doesn’t even have a stoplight. But we’re talking about food here, not the town. So our food isn’t from the city of Malala; it’s from our family kitchen in Malala.
History of Malala Chinese Food
Our family has been making Chinese food since we came to Canada in the 1980s. Before that, our family used to own a restaurant in Malala, China. We learned how to make Chinese food from our families there and brought it with us when we moved to Canada.
The Secret Behind Our Food
Our food is authentic because it’s made in the Malala style. The ingredients are grown fresh and never frozen. And the recipes are passed down from each generation of the family.
How to make Malala Chinese Food
- 2 large potatoes, peeled
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup shortening
- Salt and pepper to taste
Step 1: Peel the potatoes, then cut them into small cubes.
Step 2: Lightly salt and pepper the potatoes. Place a piece of aluminum foil in your steamer; then place the cubed potato on top.
Step 3: Place the lid on the steamer and steam for five minutes. Meanwhile, cut up your cabbage into bite-sized chunks.
Step 4: When your steamer is done, add in the cabbage and steam it for an additional five minutes.
Step 5: Add in the flour, salt, and pepper. Mix all ingredients.
Step 6: Cut the shortening into small pieces (1/2 inch cubes). Sprinkle the shortening pieces onto your wok or stovetop burner.
Step 7: When all the pieces are coated with shortening, add in your vegetable mixture.
Step 8: Heat your wok on high heat for two minutes. Then turn down to medium-high and constantly stir while cooking until everything is fully cooked and soft.
Step 9: Turn off the stove. Using a spatula, transfer your food to a large bowl. Serve and enjoy!
Health Benefits of Malala Chinese Food
This is a very yin-yang dish because it has a lot of meat and potatoes, both of which are very yang. But it also has cabbage which is very yin and soft. This creates balance in your body.
Besides this balance, the dish will provide you with many vitamins and minerals. The vegetables give you iron and calcium, which your body needs for overall health.
The potato gives you carbohydrates for energy, and the cabbage gives you vitamin K, which is important for blood circulation.

1. Add two cloves of garlic to the wok when you heat your oil. Cook for an additional minute, and then add your vegetables. Vanilla will be added after you’re done cooking.
2. Add about a half teaspoon of Chinese five-spice powder to your flour mixture before frying your vegetable mixture.
3. Add one cup of bean sprouts to your food when it’s done cooking. Stir them regularly while they cook, and they should be ready in about five minutes.
4. Add rice vinegar to the sauce instead of soy sauce.

It is gluten-free but still has a flour mixture, so it may not be suitable for people with extreme gluten allergies.

Our family has made halal food since we came to Canada in the 1980s. So if you are a Muslim, this will be perfectly fine for you because it isn’t very different from our recipes back in China.
