Day 1: Step 1: The Meat Step

Getting straight to the point, we’re going to be eating A LOT OF MEAT. Chinese food is not typically vegetarian-friendly (not that you can’t find vegetarian options, but more on this later).

Meat is usually visible and often comes right out on the table. As a general rule of thumb, smaller restaurants will only have one kind of meat on their menu,

while larger restaurants will offer many different types. You can usually tell how long a place has been around by what kind of meat they serve.

Step 2: Fill half your plate with vegetables

Meat needs its place, too. The crowd cheered excitedly as he dipped his spoon into the mighty bowl and began placing morsels of food onto his plate.

Although he had used just one ingredient, the taste was anything but monotonous. The meaty broth mixed with the nutty smell of bamboo mushrooms and earthy wood ear fungus gave off an aroma that could bring anyone to their knees.

Step 3: Fill half your plate with rice

The origin of the Chinese food pyramid The crowd roared again as he placed the finishing touches of fried garlic. “Bring on another challenger!” they cried out.

No one was prepared for what came next, though, as the chef responded with a sly smile, “I am afraid it is my victory alone.” With that, he plopped his entire bowl of rice into the mighty soup and stirred vigorously.

Step 4: Exercise frequently

He was not the only one who caught on, though. By nightfall, challengers from all over China had gathered in droves to try their luck against the mighty chef armed with nothing but fine bird’s nest soup.

The crowd watched fascinatedly as he summoned his powers once again and prepared to take on the next challenger.

Step 5: Eat your vegetables

The crowd gasped as he chucked his rice into the soup bowl and began stirring it vigorously again. He then topped the mound of fragrant white grains with fresh morsels of meat,

mushroom, fungus, and vegetables before taking a bite out of his masterpiece. “Mmmm!” he groaned, “This is even better with fried garlic.”

Step 6: Limit your sodium intake

The crowd gasped again as the challenger’s dish was served up. Before anyone could take a bite, though, one of the gasping onlookers called out, “I don’t believe it!

He used the same trick twice!” Another food-eating contest was quickly called for, and soon another challenger stood up to the plate with their secret weapon.

Step 7: Eat plenty of whole grains

The challenger spied excitedly towards the mighty soup bowl, wondering what ingredients he might be able to use this time around. He wiped the sweat off his brow nervously before making his move.

“I bet he won’t be expecting this! A whole bowl of just ONE ingredient!” The crowd gasped before erupting in applause. This challenger was a true champion indeed if he could pull something like that off.

Step 8: Drink plenty of water

Although the challenger had been hoping for applause, he did not get it from the crowd. All he got was a giant crashing sound, which turned out to be the mighty chef dropping his bowl of rice into his soup before stirring it vigorously.

“You know what they say,” the champion announced proudly, “Two birds with one stone!” The challenger’s head sank in defeat as all eyes turned towards him again.

Step 9: Exercise regularly

The crowd gasped again before another challenger was called to take on the mighty chef armed with nothing but fine bird’s nest soup.

He turned towards the food pyramid and scanned his eyes up and down it searching for something that could help him win this match.

Step 10: Eat no more than 1000 calories per day

He quickly found what he was looking for and, with a hint of a smile on his lips, proceeded to fold his wings. “What’s he doing?” the crowd asked in unison.
